Basic Pork Rub

Basic Pork Rub

It may be basic, but it's flavorful.

Nothing fancy-pants here, just a nice and easy pork rub. Oh, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it lacks flavor. Actually, it’s loaded with flavor. It’s just a simple rub, that’s easy to make. Make an ample amount and store some in your spice cabinet. Now you’re ready for that quick “fire up the grill” moment. Perfect for ribs and chops.

  • 1/4 cup Hungarian paprika
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons non-iodized salt
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  1. Ensure that the brown sugar is free of lumps
  2. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and blend well.
  3. Adjust the cayenne pepper to your personal taste.
  4. This rub will store in and airtight container for up to a year. If you’re storing it up to a year, you’re slacking in your barbecue duties.

Tip: If you plan to make a batch for storage, make two. Adjust the cayenne pepper so that you have a mild version as well as one that is hot.
